The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) developed The FORTIFIED Roof Grant Program to assist homeowners in taking proactive steps toward stronger, more resilient homes.
As North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey emphasizes:

What Is the FORTIFIED Roof Grant Program?
The Strengthen Your Roof program is administered through the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA). It offers grants of up to $8,000 to help eligible homeowners offset the cost of installing a FORTIFIED Roof. You may also be eligible for significant discounts on your homeowners’ policy.
This program is available to homeowners who:
- Live in an eligible coastal or barrier island rating territory
- Are insured by the NCIUA
- Own qualifying residential properties
- Meet program requirements, regardless of income level
The goal is simple: reduce storm damage, protect homes, and strengthen communities across North Carolina’s most vulnerable regions.
